There were some questions about ageabilty of this wine when the Patz & Hall warehouse sale was going on last week so I thought I’d pop one of the older bottles and show how they hold up.
Cheers!
2013 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Zio Tony Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/29/2025)
Pop n pour, crazy neon yellow color. Lemon and grapefruit pith on the nose along with some pineapple and matchstick reduction. My mouth is puckering just smelling this wine. Creamy, almost lanolin, texture with lemon curd, honey, bitter grapefruit and noticeable oak but it’s pretty well balanced. No butter, some stone fruit and enough acidity to give it a lip smacking crescendo. A bitterness and minerality hangs on for an enjoyable finish. Solid bottle.
Not a Zio, but had a 2016 Goldridge chard from the closeout sale last night. PnP with Salmon cakes. 92pts Balanced, enough acid and bite to work with the Salmon cakes. Wife even commented she really liked it (and she is fussy about full malo chards).
Had the exact wine over two days this weekend. I thought it had perhaps lost a step, with some of the fruit potentially faded, but still fun to drink and a great buy at the closeout price.
