TN: 2013 Nigl Riesling Privat Senftenberger Pellingen

2013 Nigl Riesling Privat Senftenberger Pellingen - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal (7/20/2015)
I normally do not drink much Nigl Riesling early in its life. I prefer the wines with some age. But since I bought several of this, I figured an early check in was ok. Excellent choice. The wine is showing a lot of crisp, crunchy fruit, a blast of spice that dominates the mid-palate and finish (and no, it’s not wood), with an underlying strata of minerals. This is frankly delicious right now. I’m glad that I have several more. Only a few may get cellared.

Thanks David.
I have some arriving in the fall.
I’m a Nigl fan.

Sounds like a surprisingly good showing for such a young Privat. I’m going to check one out soon too. This is the only Riesling I buy that I generally don’t try soon after release.

We stayed at Nigl just before harvest in 13 (I recommend it), so I bought a sixer of Privat. I really enjoyed the one I tried this past April, but look forward to seeing them age.

One of the highlights of the vintage, for sure. Bought this one and the Hochacker.

Thank you for the good note, David. I recently had Nigl’s 2013 Riesling Senftenberger Piri, and it was really fine, as well - deliciously fresh, crisp and precise. I recently bought more of Nigl’s 2013s on pre-arrival from Terry Theise’s CA distributor, who is a great guy and really savvy. When I did so, I asked his impression of them. Here is his reply: “I just re-tasted Nigl’s 2013’s today and confirmed that they are an immortal collection. Hochäcker reigns supreme, to my mind, but Pellingen Privat and Goldberg are hardly inferior. The Heiligenstein of Schloss Gobelsburg and all three of Bründlmayer’s wines from that vintage are also absolute top picks.”

Disclaimer: I sell Nigl, Schloss Gobelsburg and Brundlmayer.

The 2013 Brundlmayer Riesling Heiligenstein Alte Reben is an absolute monument.

I haven’t had the '13 Brundlmayer but I’ve been a big fan of other vintages.

I think the general release (such as it is) will be this fall.

Yup. And the Lyra bottling is pretty unbelievable too.

Most (or all?) of the 2013 Brundlmayer lineup has already been delivered in this area. We already got Heiligenstein Lyra and GV Vincent’s Spiegel, the latter of which is released later than most of the other bottlings.

thank you

funny, Paul,
repeatedly so.

Brundlmayer Riesling Heiligenstein 2013. Tight, intense and focused. Apples and citrus, some vegetal notes. Outstanding finish and focus. Brundlmayer seems to have hit it out of the ballpark in 2013 (I’ve also had his Loiser Berg Gruve 2013). I have 6 of the Alte Reben 13 but will give them some time.

hate to be a niggler (been wanting to use that one in this thread) but I like Nigl in every vintage I have tried it.
