TN: 2013 Cirq Pinot Noir TreeHouse (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley)

  • 2013 Cirq Pinot Noir TreeHouse - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (8/16/2023)
Bottle from my late father’s cellar. He started buying Cirq right when it first came out, but somehow we never drank a bottle together. I suppose he thought it was not going to be my sort of thing, but it’s not some outsized monster. Yes it’s ripe, but it’s still Pinot Noir. It’s just on the burly side without verging into a Syrah caricature. It’s the sort of wine my dad liked, with some structure to go along with copious fruit. It stands up to full-flavored food, and if kept at a reasonable serving temp it’s also quite balanced. I enjoyed it, though I would have preferred to have drunk it together.

Very good stuff, but not worth the money. Same applies to Chev. KB is still within an affordable range, and just as good.

Just had the 2016 last week

Chev might be less expensive than KB. Last release was $80. Cirq $130

Chev meaning Chevillon or something else…would seem to be something else.

Is Cirq that much more experience than KB these days?? Especially if you’re talking single-vineyard, im not so sure about that.

Also, id say Cirq > KB by a good amount.
