  • 2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vougeot 1er Cru Les Petits Vougeots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot 1er Cru (5/2/2025)
    This was drinking right in the zone. Such pure cherry fruit. There's moderate flesh and something cool and stony lurking. It is lightly tinged with floral spice and dark earth. Lovely balance, some sinewy muscle and good acid cut and detail. Expansive and long.

This bottling is such a GREAT value play each year in the already strong Hudelot lineup. Love the red fruited crunch!

Yep, quite Chambolle-like with its stony structure.

Ive always conceived of the wine as baby Clos Vougeot in character, with the same kind of imploded mineral core driven character, yet higher on the hillside and more treble/tonic, à la Chambolle. Its name and elemental (geo)logic are quite appropriate…

Sounds like the 2013 is in a good place, Jeremy.

I can’t say that I would add it to any list of great Burgundy values, however. Maybe back in 2013, but anytime recently, it costs. I’ve been importing Charles’ wines since the 2011 vintage.

Robert, my comment about value referred to the pricing within the Hudelot lineup … not Burgundy overall. :clinking_glasses:

Still, $150 for a quality premier cru from a top producer is a nice thing to find …

I tried the '10 recently and was surprisingly impressed.
It appears I paid $44 for the bottle (?) as opposed to $90-$100 for other PCs from the vintage so I wasn’t expecting much.

In 2010, Charles Van Canneyt was pretty new in running the estate. I think he started being in control in 2008. He was in his 20s then and did not have the reputation he has now.

I seem to remember that the reviews for the wines were that the 2010s seemed promising, but that there were concerns that he might have overfilled some of the bottles.

While I had Hudelot-Noellat wines from the early 2000s, I did not buy any of his wines until 2013, so I don’t know that much about the 2010s. Looks like you got an excellent wine at an excellent price. Congratulations.
