TN: 2012 Nigl Riesling Privat & 2002 Clos des Lambrays

  • 2012 Nigl Riesling Privat - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal (4/26/2015)
Purchased off the wine list at Le Pigeon. Pale white gold. Nose of mountain air, schist, alpine flowers, faint citrus notes. Bone dry and incisive on the tongue with layers of white pear, lime, and apple core laced with resin and stone. Mineral spine and driving acidity leading to a longer finish of flinty white fruits and satisfying grip at the end. Wonderfully refreshing and a hit with the rock shrimp and pork appetizer. From a 375. (91 pts.)
  • 2002 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (4/26/2015)
Brought to Le Pigeon and decanted for 30 minutes. Medium ruby. Striking nose of raspberry, anise, violets, earth, and a bit of beef blood. Very open on the palate, displaying layers of red raspberry, mulberry, and black cherry complicated by iron flecks, leathery notes, and hints of game. Delicate acidity and filed-off tannins leading to a long, beautifully-rendered finish of autumnal red fruit and iron. Fantastic paired with beef cheek bourguignon layered over parmesan risotto. Half bottle. (93 pts.)

just picked up some of the 02 Lambrays, albeit 750s, so good to read the positive note.

Alan,

Good score. Hope they show well. Always interesting to see how different sized formats age.

Cheers,
Doug

Where did you find 375s of the Privat? That would be fantastic to have.

David,

Yes I would agree. They were on the wine list of the restaurant so we jumped at the chance but I confess I have not found any in that format elsewhere.

Cheers,
Doug

Ah. Breezed past that first sentence.

I’ve also seen 375s of the Privat on restaurant lists in NYC but not retail.

I will have to ask Terry. I need more 375ml white wines.

Let me know if you find out anything.

Ditto!
