Thanks. I know I did not pay that much for these wines, but since I bought them at Weygandt Wines prior to starting to use CellarTracker, I don’t have records that are easy to find on how much I paid for them.
Last Friday I went to a wine tasting at a local wine store, I noticed that there was a unicorn inside the shop, unsurprisingly with a unicorn price tag.
Popped another. Of course I forgot that I popped one a couple years ago. If only they had a website for people to log their inventory and record their notes, and someone to manage that for me…
Needless to say, gorgeous wine. You can taste the history here, 150+ year old vines. Deeply complex, almost brooding right now. I would not touch another for 5-10+ years. Quite tannic here now but underneath, such a melange of earth, fruit, green veggies and tobacco. The bright precociousness of youth has lapsed and this wine is deep into its slumber and growth phase. Love it.
PS. Reminds me that wine maturity is not always linear. Given my taste in in 2022, I would not have expected this wine to be so backward in 2025. And yet here it is.
My sort of wine indeed! You introduced me to it a few years back. I was lucky enough to find six 2012s at auction at a very reasonable price, before news got out I suppose, because since then the price has gone up a lot. It’s even harder to find now than before.
Funnily enough, I was looking at them last night thinking I should open one as it’s been two years since my last bottle. Sounds like I’m going to wait a bit longer - so thanks for the warning!
