What experience does anyone have with other cab franc wines from this producer? Are any of the other ones standouts or worth chasing down, or was this kind of the one really good one in their portfolio?
I need to correct myself. Weygandt still imports Plouzeau. They do not seem to bring in the Ante Phyloxxera. If Warren still follows this site, he might have something to say. It was Amirault that they have ceased to import.
That’s a great price! Perhaps berserkers from over there and grab some. Not my favorite vintage of this wine, but still interesting. I almost popped it last night instead of the 2012, debating giving the 2012 more time.
We are all guessing on this one, I think, but sure, why not? If you have more than one, I’d pop one in the near-term. I do wonder whether the fruit survives the acid on 15+.
So, if they were still making it as recently as 2016, it would seem that either they no longer gave Weygandt any to import or, they gave them so little, that the likes of Alfert and me fell of the list of those who were offered any. Ah well…
The only suitable reason for selling was that the wines were in my Chicago cellar at Domaine. They never made the trip out to Las Vegas with me in 2019. Made the decision to send 100% of my cellar to WineBid. If I didn’t live on the other side of the country and have 2 young kids, I probably would have combed through my locker before selling. Just didn’t have the time or energy. Glad they found a good home in San Antonio!
Been lucky enough to drink many bottles of the Ante wines over the years. They’ve always been delicious - not sure I’ve ever had one at maturity, though!
Matt, it is a shame that Robert never saw the listing. If he had, you would have gotten more money and he would have gotten to spend more money. Win-win.
Robert (and others), I have a bit of 2009 and 2010 Plouzeau (Château de la Bonneliere Chinon) Les Cornuelles Vieille Vigne. Should these be drunk now or held?
