TN: 2012 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Little Hill

This was a great bottle of Rochioli.

  • 2012 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Little Hill - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/6/2017)
14.5% alcohol. Opened for an hour to let breathe and come to temperature. Black cherry color and a smoking good nose of rich black cherry, a touch of oak, and a lot of spiciness. Classic Russian River in the mouth – smooth, deep black cherry fruit, baking spice, and refined but powerful structure. An excellent young showing for this wine, with a lot of upside over the next five years. A

Thanks for the note. I love the rochioli single vineyards from 2012. Had the Three Corners last month- my favorite Pinot of the year. Looking forward to them during the next 5 years.

I’ve been holding on the to the 2011–hope it drinks as well.

Thanks for the great note!

These wines are very special. I do love them. There’s a richness to them without being overbearing. A real treat. And, Joshua, the 2011 should be drinking very well over the next few years.

Three Corner is a great vineyard! Love 2012 as it has developed.

I had an 03 East Block Saturday which, while good, seemed a tad tired and hadn’t gained any tertiary notes. There was alluring, silky black cherry, but my previous bottle in 2011 was MUCH better.

I don’t know that there’s much upside in keeping these more than 8-10 years.

They seem to have phases. We still drink them from the 90’s and they are doing amazingly, in general!
