TN: 2012 Dönnhoff Riesling (Germany, Nahe)

2012 Dönnhoff Riesling - Germany, Nahe (8/17/2014)
Solid! Just solid. If there is a more consistently pleasurable estate Riesling I am not aware of it. The '12 continues to sport bright acidity, tree fruit and a mineral infused finish. Really hard to beat.

Nice, I picked up a bunch to have around for those times I can’t decide what to drink and need a no-brainer.

Nice note. I don’t drink enough estate rieslings, especially in good vintages.

It also ages remarkably well, at least in the short term. 2008 is drinking really well right now, as is 2009.

Or not, because, you know, Donnhoff doesn’t age.

I had the 2005 in the spring. It was delicious and still had years of improvement ahead of it.

2007,9, and 10 are all doing very well.

Dumb question but is this the bottling that has “dry slate” on the label? Recently had that one and thought it was a great value.

No. This is the regular estate Riesling. It is off dry. Not truly sweet.

Thanks!

Agreed. Had the 2007 this past Friday night with an heirloom tomato and feta salad.

One of a couple “go to” riesling for me. This perfectly splits the difference between often too sweet Kabinetts and too dry half /full dry trockens.

I usually buy a case of Donhoff riesling every year as well as some of their other wines. I once said to my daughter and niece “You can’t go wrong with Donhoff”. They repeated the line at some fancy restaurant the next day and were immediately given great respect for their insider wine knowledge.
