TN: 2012 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett (Germany, Nahe)

  • 2012 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Nahe (12/22/2013)
Screw capped. Took to dinner. Light golden in color. The nose is really nice. Apples, cider, slight sweetness on the nose and a streak on minerality. On the palate, this drinks beautifully if a bit riper than Kabinett. Great apples, nice backbone of acidity. Went great with some spicy vegetarian fare. Long finish. For under $20 a bottle, great value here. My wife kept refilling her glass (usually she is prompting me to open the red already). (92 pts.)

Yup. 2012 is becoming better and better with each wine I try. The Donnhoff Estate Riesling is amazingly good in '12, and even less expensive.

Damn dist forgot to send me the pre-sell so I missed out on Donnhoff. I am still pissed.

Great note. Funny, my wife had the same reaction with a few of these awesome Germans. Usually nearly exclusively a red wine drinker, the red will usually just sit there while she asks for more Dönnhoff… How dare her! For me when you put the words Dönnhoff and Oberhaüser together, very good things happen.

Not to rub it in, but I went long on Dönnhoff for 2012. Cannot wait tip they get here on Monday. Sorry.

Heh…long on Donnhoff. You have no idea.
