TN: 2011 McPrice Myers Altas Vinas (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County)

  • 2011 McPrice Myers Altas Vinas - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (3/20/2014)
Rather volatile (and off-putting) at first, but with just 30 minutes of air, this had dialed in to reveal a pretty complete wine. 36% Mourvedre, 32% Grenache, 32% Syrah, proves a winning blend, with good structure, and notable delineation of varieties, such that each has their own voice. Nice with a peppery flank steak, but the deliciousness factor here cries out for nothing more than a refill. The Mourvedre component (especially) is really quite pretty. For under $35, this has a lot going for it. Not something I would seek out, but would gladly enjoy again if given the chance. 14,6% needs more time to integrate, same for the tannins which were fairly brutal at first. For fans of this house that don’t already own this, grab several, soon. Drink thru 2021

Slow-O 2 hours, served double-blind. Thorough aeration recommended.

I own several of the 2010 Atlas Vinas and enjoy the heck out of them. I really like what McPrice Myers is doing. I will continue to purchase their wines. Love the logo on this label… being the Irishman that I am!

Someone gifted me the 2009 of this last year, but I haven’t opened. Every time I glance at the label, I think of Mike Myers.

Get in my belly!
