TN: 2011 Keller "G-Max" - 120/100

2011 Keller "G-Max"

If you have this bottle in the cellar, open it. Now is the perfect moment to drink it. Fair to say long life ahead. But as I have drunken a lot of G-Max in my life ( Danke KP ) and every time they were outstanding, BUT too young. So, open the 2011 G-Max the night before, let it rest without cork in a cold place. The next morning add the cork and put the bottle in the fridge. My guests were blown away by this G-Max, guests who have the best of the best in the cellar and drink the best of the best. One guest said „my best Riesling ever so far“. Maybe or quite certainly 2013&2017 etc. will be even better in the future, but right now 2011 is magic.

The perfume was Burgundy and even on the palate more Burgundy than Rheinhessen The texture is cashmere&silk and truly a Spa for your tastebuds. Never-ending length and wonderful complexity. We all were such happy and couldn’t believe our luck, perfect drinking window for this G-Max. And one of my guest said related to a German wine-dealer and his absurd scores for his (!) wines these days. “This wine is 120/100”. haha

The most important thing is to share such a special wine with good friends. ALL smiled yesterday night.

100/100

YES Herwig.

I am remembering a Xmas-dinner a couple of years ago in Potsdam and I brought a 2016 Pettenthal auction as a drinking gift. The wine was breathtaking, AND the girls wanted to drinking nothing else more the whole night. Only Pettenthal. haha

Lobenberg?

I have send you a PM.

Thank you for the note. I know what you mean, I still don’t feel I have experienced a G-Max at its peak. I will open a 2011 soon!

Martin - how much is G-Max on release in Germany?

Sounds epic Martin! Kellers Grossen Lagen are high on my list to ever have a sip off after tasting my first Von der Fels '18 lately. That was greatly intense and very young… But those prices are epic as well, saw Lobenberg sells assorted cases for 6k+ euros…

Adam,

you can’t buy G-Max alone, you have to buy a case of mixed Keller wines, "von den Großen Lagen". For example regarding the vintage 2018 it was 1650,00 €

· 1 Flasche G-Max 2018
· 1 Flasche Hipping Riesling Großes Gewächs 2018
· 2 Flaschen Abtserde Riesling Großes Gewächs 2018
· 2 Flaschen Kirchspiel Riesling Großes Gewächs 2018
· 3 Flaschen Morstein Riesling Großes Gewächs 2018
· 3 Flaschen Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 2018

In the early days it was 2 bottles of G-Max per case. But unfortunately some people thought they are extremely clever and sold 1 bottle of G-Max via eBay and made a lot of money, more money than they spend for the case. So, KP changed it to 1 bottle understandably.

Fair to say the new Keller case has only 6 bottles now. Here we have the classic supply and demand.

Yes, it was an epic night. But this is what really matters, to share such a special wine with good friends. You can’t drink such a wine alone. Fair to say we also had the luck that the 2011 G-Max was spot on.

I would take 10 cases for that price  and promise to open and drink every bottle!
