TN: 2011 Harrington Tannat 1010 Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles)

  • 2011 Harrington Tannat 1010 Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (12/2/2012)
Lifted, dark fruited nose with black pepper and a hint of smoky savoriness. Smells like a cross between a zin and a syrah. Medium to full bodied with bright and lively blackberry and plum fruit. Some fine-grained tannin but nothing remotely like what I’ve experienced in Madirans. Upends my idea of what Tannat can be and I like it. Seems likely to improve. (89 pts.)

Thanks for your note, Zach. I was surprised right from the start on how relatively mild the tannins are on this wine. I expect it will hold up fine for at least a few years but as you note, it’s drinking nicely already.

The vineyard is just a couple of miles down Vineyard Drive from Tablas Creek - seems to be a good area for Tannat.
