TN: 2011 Bodegas Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea

  • 2011 Bodegas Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea - Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja (11/11/2021)
Decanted 6hrs. I wasn’t surprised that I really enjoyed this a few weeks ago, I was surprised at HOW much I enjoyed this - figuring it would be in the shadows of the last two vintages I have tried, the 05 and 10. Strikes that familiar pose of one foot in a traditional Rioja (freshness, good acidity, some slightly earthy notes, decaying leaves etc) and one foot in the modern (black fruit spectrum, tar, a bit of well integrated oak etc). Just lovely and drinks especially well at present and likely in future days. (93 pts.)

I’ve got a few of those in the cellar. Since they can handle age pretty well I always tend to go for a different wine telling myself I need not worry about the Prado Enea (that’s true for most of my Rioja GR). Your note reminds me that I should open one once in a while. Also glad to see that it holds a candle to the 2010. Thanks!
