TN: 2010 Vietti Barolo Castiglione (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

  • 2010 Vietti Barolo Castiglione - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (12/18/2014)
Mmmmm this is good! Perfect light red berry Barolo color….dusty cherry, dried rose, cinnamon stick, raspberry farm nose. Not at all too tannic right now…I’ve had some puckering ones from this Castiglione….still pretty dry, but not sucking dry. Subtle red berry fruit…bright and floral…pretty. But don’t be fooled here…still has sneaky structure……just took another sip, and got slapped in the face!! Love that! Great dryness, yet wets the salivary glands……little tar, crunchy minerals, smoke, spice. Tasty now for its youth and freshness…but I can see this gaining in 10. A must case buy! (94 pts.)

I picked up a case of the 2010 Perbacco. Only one bottle of Castiglione. Guess I got that backwards.

No, not really. You just need to up the Castiglione. The Perbacco gives you something to drink as you wait for the Castiglione.

Great note Buzz. Going to buy some. Need to start drinking more Italian.

I thought I posted this note? [scratch.gif]

Sure looks pretty in the glass! I am trying my best to avoid all the 2010’s that I’ve bought, along with my 2010 Bordeaux.

In my opinion, it’s a wine to buy by the case. Great stuff!

Yup.

Got six at Costco last month.

Six cases? [cheers.gif]

Right. Served with a side of divorce papers.

So after the split, that leaves you with three cases. And if she doesn’t like Nebbiolo you get all six. Seems like a win/win.

Happy I bought a case!

Very tempted to open one too

That’s very true. But Castiglione is Cdn$73 locally, which is hard to swallow knowing its around $45 in the US. But I picked up another bottle today anyway. Not enough to waste one early. I’ll wait years to see how this is.

Fixed: I discovered I had one more, so I have half a 6 pack, which I assume means half a case.

I’m still waiting for a lot of 09 Barolo to clear off the local shelves and be refreshed with 10’s.

Has any one of you tried all the 2010 Vietti side by side?

All the 2010 single vineyard wines?
