2010 Penfolds Shiraz St. Henri - Australia, South Australia (5/11/2014)
Dark purple, the colour of a bruise. It is dense, loaded with blackberry and cassis, bullet proof but creamy. It has no hard edges and has plenty of cedar, spice and vanilla. No doubting the wine’s class and it is a crowd pleaser but I want my St Henri a bit edgier.

Jeremy,
I find it hard to understand that this has ben bestowed with 100pts. It shows a bit of oak I reckon, which is unusual for St Henris.
I did manage to snag 5 cases so it will be interesting to see how it develops.
That’s quite a score, Kent. More volume than my business got as an ITB allocation in the UK! I’m a big fan of the wine. More 18.5/20 than a perfect 100, but I think it’s extremely fine. Really loved the Bin 169 Coonawarra Cab they released.
Matthew,
I too am ITB (restaurant) and that was my allocation. I have always preferred St Henri to Grange, but the frenzy this wine created in the market is quite unlike anything I have seen for a while.
BTW, had a very tasty 83 Grange on Sunday night that was still looking rather youthful.
I haven’t tried the Bin 169 and the price is in real nose bleed territory!
Cheers,
Kent
