TN: 2010 Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet

  • 2010 Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet (2/8/2014)
Had this at The French Room in Dallas with my wife. Excellent chard with good fruit, minerality, a little almond on the nose, with minimal oak. We really liked this - I will be moving some of my white wine purchasing to more French going forward. (92 pts.)

Scott, risky with the pre-mox issue not yet resolved. Not so big a deal if you drink them young, but white Burgs command high prices for what they are expected to become with cellar time. Now it is a risk holding these. My 2002 Burgs started to show signs after about 5-6 years.

Bob, that’s too bad as I would be loading up on these if I thought there wasn’t any premox risk. This wasn’t even one of the high ends, but still better than most Cali chards I’ve had this year.

The low end 2010 Bourgogne Blanc Setilles is excellent QPR at $15. I bought 2 cases. At last check, no signs of premox. Bright acidity and fruit.

Had a 2005 Corton Charlemagne a couple of months ago. Super young and tight. Began to unwind after 12 hours of air. Also no signs of premox. Clive Coats does a 3 year report and gave Olivier Leflaive much higher scores than Domaine Leflaive if that means anything.
