2010 Marcel Lapierre Morgon- France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (7/22/2015)
Elegant, fresh and complex. That about sums it up. It’s amazing that a wine this light can have so much flavor. The red fruit is still quite prominent, but I really loved the brown tobacco element that kept popping up on the nose and palate. Beautiful wine.
I opened a '13 over the weekend and it took five to six hours decanting to start opening up. Thankfully I opened the bottle early so there was plenty of time to enjoy it over the day.
Popped the 2010 last night, lovely, but boy is it soaring on night two. David’s note really captures the essence of this wine well. I was a bit surprised by the lightness in coloration, but now that it has really opened up, it packs considerable aromas and flavors. A very perfumed wine (meant in the positive sense). The cool-climate red fruits are pronounced, fresh and crisp, but it’s the earth tones that really appeal. I’m not necessarily picking up tobacco, but am feeling the savory quality with dry earth, cold river stones and dark tea leaves. A really fine texture to this wine, with thin tannins resolving. This is why we age Beaujolais. It will carry well for another 3-5+ years. I do not have experience with this producer over 10 years of age.
