2010 François Chidaine Vouvray Clos Baudoin - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (8/8/2014)
Needs some air to open up, initially a bit tight and lean. But time, and room temperature does wonders for this wine. Medium intensity, nice acidity, and a good dose of minerality all wrapped in a beautifully balanced package. My last glass is gone, but the sensation of the wine is still on my tongue, 10 minutes later. Glad to have a bunch of these. (92 pts.)
This is like the elusive google search that returns only a single result. Just a single post, so I’ll add to it with another note almost 4 years later:
2010 François Chidaine Vouvray Clos Baudoin - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (5/8/2018)
Medium light hay in color, with a tinge of green, light waxy Chenin nose, this is rich and voluptuous on the palate, oozing intensity and flavor from all its pores, good acidity and overall balance, with a long finish of rich fruit, tapering to notes of saline minerality. Not overly complex or layered, but so tasty and balanced. (92 pts.)
Chidaine bought this vineyard from the Poniatowski family, several years ago, and dumped its library for cheap.
Thanks for the note Alan. I also bought quite a few of these - I think it’s time for me to check in as well.
Chris, from this bottle at least, there is no rush.
I haven’t had this wine in years but there is some 2016 in my market, anyone try that vintage?
It was wobbly in the beginning, sometimes stunning, sometimes out of balance. It’s truly a great terroir but the farming before Chidaine was abysmal and he was working through that. It’s been a good decade since, so I imagine he has that all squared away. Francois is a top notch vigneron.
Alan, I want to affirm your notes that speak to the texture of this wine, but I have concerns based on the color. I wonder whether this is going to go much further. FWIW, here is my note to go along with Mr Rath’s, whose palate I respect so this is not about trying to call Alan out, but offer another POV based on the bottle we had last night.

Based on the CT data on this wine, there are about 100 bottles in cellars. And if I judge the bottle I had last night, I would say that if you own this wine to please consider drinking it. It has become distinctly bronzy in color, and at just 8 years old it seems far darker than I would expect. I did find some acidity in the bottle, a bit of a heavier texture with flavors of apple and stone fruit. I’m simply telling all of you, especially those of you that have multiple bottles remaining, is to challenge my TN and see if you believe my assessment here. Last night was my only bottle of this and if I owned more, I’d be chilling down the rest of them and drinking them in the next 6 months.

Frankie, sounds a lot like premox in other areas - every bottle is different. I’ve certainly experienced this with other Chidaine bottlings, so it’s not really a surprise to hear about yours.
Bummer Frank - it sounds like you’ve consistently been unlucky with Chidaine as of late
I do love the wines and have fortunately experienced the opposite…but I’m sure I just completely jinxed myself now

A note from the second night: I can’t quite decide what I think about this bottle. There’s some decent fruit, touches of complexity, bit of minerality, but overall it’s just not particularly interesting. (88 pts.)
