2010 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett- Germany, Nahe (1/16/2012)
nose: very precise nose with some flint tones, lots of pears, white peaches, minerals and a bit of citrus as well. Excellent depth as well to this
taste: lighter bodied with a real precision on the palate. Refreshing medium+ acidity backs this up along with clean tones of pears, minerals, crushed rocks and white peaches
overall: The precision on this is what makes the wine. It doesn’t have the lush fruit that donnhoff’s are known for, but that isn’t a detraction at all. This could use some age, but it’s extremely good right now (91 pts.)
wow. When I had this wine a few weeks ago, I thought it was very much on the lush side, especially for a Kab., and especially for a Donnhoff — and by “lush” I mean the impression of lots of dry extract. Very interesting the difference of opinion on that matter.
I would not consider copious dry extract to mean “lush.” Dense might work. Lush to me is more loaded with fruit and with a richness rather than density.
thanks. I normally associate lushness with donnhoff and figured that a 2010 wasn’t going to be like that. This was certainly more steely than I expected (not a bad thing at all, just different from previous donnhoffs that I’ve had)
