TN: 2010 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett

taste: lighter bodied with a real precision on the palate. Refreshing medium+ acidity backs this up along with clean tones of pears, minerals, crushed rocks and white peaches

overall: The precision on this is what makes the wine. It doesn’t have the lush fruit that donnhoff’s are known for, but that isn’t a detraction at all. This could use some age, but it’s extremely good right now (91 pts.)

One of my favorite bottles to bring to our local sushi restaurant. Drinking all too quickly through a case+. Agree with your notes.

Thanks for this note.

Bought some the other week…

Leistenberg is not typically lush, and 2010 likely pushed it further to the un-lush side.

wow. When I had this wine a few weeks ago, I thought it was very much on the lush side, especially for a Kab., and especially for a Donnhoff — and by “lush” I mean the impression of lots of dry extract. Very interesting the difference of opinion on that matter.

FWIW, the current thread for this wine is here: TN: 2010 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers

I would not consider copious dry extract to mean “lush.” Dense might work. Lush to me is more loaded with fruit and with a richness rather than density.

I could get behind that definition.

thanks. I normally associate lushness with donnhoff and figured that a 2010 wasn’t going to be like that. This was certainly more steely than I expected (not a bad thing at all, just different from previous donnhoffs that I’ve had)
