2010 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (8/27/2022)
Beautiful ruby color, on the nose - smoke, band-aid, gun powder and tomato vine. Palate shows white pepper, cranberry, iodine, iron and stems, yet deep and rich. Best glass was the last one about 6 hours after opening where everything had come together, however it is a bit too rich for me. I preferred it when it was younger, lighter and more fresh.
I don’t have much experience with these wines, but various commenters have suggested that they have improved in recent years (under LVMH) vs. the difficult several decades prior. True or false?
I’ve had this wine at several intervals since release (most often with Jon!), and it’s never gone to sleep, and isn’t as “Lambray-ish” as other years. The fact that Jon points to a much richer profile now says that it’s turning that corner back to their classic style.
I have yet to taste an LVMH vintage. It’s not as easy on the wallet as it was then Price has doubled in recent history.
I have this from early 2000s to just before the price went over $300, have tried many once in the past few years, and had a similar reaction. I like these all so much on release, silky and deep with brown spices and nice complexity, that I am hoping 12 years simply is just not the right time to be drinking these.
This bottle was not on my list of wines I planned to drink anytime soon, but someone brought a bottle to the dinner I had with Blake on Wednesday and while I was excited to see it, that bottle was unfortunately off, tasted like soap. After that I decided I would check-in with one of my bottles when I returned.
