TN: 2010 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers

  • 2010 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru (2/3/2015)
Only one way to summarize this wine for me… HEADTURNER! This is one of those rare wines that comes along and the first sip blows you away. For a NSG this surprised me with its elegance and ethereal nature. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of NSG but rarely is it this finely nit and charming. I just loved this wine. By the time I had asked for more, it was drained. My WOTN and no doubt, everyone else’s too. This makes me wish I could taste every $50+ wine I buy before I buy them. I know it when I taste it and this is IT! A no brainer I’ll be seeking out for my cellar. Sells for around $80 and drinks like $200+. (95 pts.)

Fabulous wine. Very nice note.

Thanks for the note. Curious, was this one of the leaky bottles?

Damn this thread! (impulse purchase) [head-bang.gif]

Not my btl but no mentions was made of it. Is that happening with this vineyard in 2010?

I drank one of my leakers two weeks ago. Absolutely delish. No evidence of any mistreatment/damage on the nose or palate.[cheers.gif]

Was it this specific vineyard? And who was the retail source?

Not just this vineyard. Earlier thread on the issue: Hudelot-Noellat 2010 Bottle Problems - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers

I too drank the 2010 and 2007 Murgers about a month ago. Both were fantastic. The 2010 was a leaker, but you couldn’t tell.

Yeah, the 2010 I had was a leaker as well…very nice wine, though I’m not sure I’ll seek out any more.

This is the type of thread that costs me money.

Premier Cru. They told me that they were leakers and offered me my money back. At $34.99 a bottle I figured it was not worth a refund and I would drink them up sooner as opposed to later. [cheers.gif]

It’s worthy to point out that the leakers are not limited to those obtained from PC. There are multiple reports of similar bottles from completely different sources, both in the U.S. and abroad.

All three of my bottles were leakers. Purchased from Crush.

My WOTN was the Bonnezeaux. But this was my favorite red of the night in a runaway. The vibrancy was really something. It was is if the wine was saying, “Try to ignore me, I dare you.”

Thanks for the note, yet to taste the '10 vintage but the '09 was impressive.

Murgers are my newly found love in NSG, both Cathiard and Hudelot versions are impressive, yet to taste the Meo Camuzet version, and of course longing for an old bottle by Henri Jayer!

Anyone else worth a look?

This thread inspired a cellar pull of the '02 C-M 1er Charmes. Not to hijack the discussion, but note here (from CT):

Wow – seems there to be a fair bit ‘o’ variability in tasters’ experiences with this wine. This taster’s with this bottle = extraordinarily positive. Only downside is a slight bit of harshness on the finish. Otherwise this is singularly intriguing and delicious. Cork was oxidized, as too often seems to be the case with wines from this Domaine. Overfilling is a bugaboo.

Really earthy, in the best possible way. Clearly Chambolle as well. Gorgeous. One of those events where the right bottle meets the right time…92 pts.

Tremblay, Lignier-Michelot, and Bertagna should be worth trying.

No leaking on this bottle, but the fill level was almost to the bottom of the cork.

I bought all of my 2010s except a handful overseas. No leakers. The fills are really high. This is going to end up being a problem like Leroy had. If Charles wants to fill this high, he might have to go to wax on the top. FWIW.

I really don’t think the leaking is a handling issue at all.
