TN: 2009 Patricia Green Cellars Sauvignon Blanc (USA, Oregon

Who would have thought that Oregon could mak a SB like this. PG is only one of three wineries making SB.

Wow. What a QPR! Beautiful aromas of sweet grapefruit, tropical fruit and honey. No herbal elements. Lush on the palate…coats the tongue and mouthfilling. Long on the palate with brisk acidity on the back end. Very lovely wine. I’m going to buy more. It blew away the 09 Herb Lamb SB that we just picked up at the winery! (92 pts.)

I read in their Spring newsletter that they are one of the largest Sauv Blanc producers in Oregon (not widely grown), and have a strong passion for making it. I tried their Panama White (Sauv Blanc) when I was up in Oregon last year, and it was a serious wine. This 2009 vintage for $20, sounds like a great deal.

Here are some more techy details I pulled from the newsletter: This is a blend from Oak Grove Vineyard outside of Salem (the oldest planting of Sauvignon Blanc in the state), Croft Vineyard (outside of Dallas) and our Estate Vineyard here in Ribbon Ridge.

Thanks for posting this note. I am going to order a few bottles myself.

Thanks Josh, for the info…enjoy!

Roger, we attended a winemaker dinner at Fleming’s in Tucson a little over a year ago, where Pat Green was in attendance to present and discuss her wines. The Sauvignon Blanc was her choice to accompany the appetizers. I felt the wine was made more in the style of a Sancerre than the traditional Sauvignon Blancs from California and New Zealand, and she agreed that this was what she was trying to achieve. By the way I felt this was her best wine that evening, although others in attendance favoured her Pinot Noirs.

I subsequently bought a case of the wine at AJ’s and we drank the last of the case in April.

Agree that it’s extremely good value and I’ll probably stock up again when we go down there next Fall.

Good eye! The Oregon Sauvignon Blanc Cartel (PG, Andrew Rich, Jay Sommers) makes some dynamite wine.
