2009 Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival of Love- Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (9/13/2010)
This is a great wine in the same way comic books are great art. It’s flashy with a lot of fantastic colors and super powers not found in nature. Tons of red and black fruit, nutmeg, vanilla, tar, and cocoa. A great Monday Night Football wine, enjoyed with Black Diamond Cheddar and crackers.
Held up well on day two with chicken breast, pancetta, black winter truffles, and pasta dressed with cream, parmesan reggiano, boschetto tartufo, and black truffle butter. (94 pts.)
I think this is definitely a fun wine to drink, but for $90 clams, I think there are so many other wines I would enjoy so much more for a lot less money. I think this wine will be found for a lot less coin down the road. I would buy a few at $50, but $90 for a Shiraz nowadays is just not kosher in my book.
That was discounted Scott…the lowest price it ever was $60 release for COL 2005. Upper 60’s in 06, 70’s in 07 and now 90 on the website, though it can be found for less.
Where can it be found for less than 90? Inquiring minds would like to know. Back in the day, $60 wasn’t too bad, but $90 in this economy is really pretty sick.
