  Going on twelve years old, and it’s still Spätlese sweet and Spätlese rich. There is a bit of that Treppchen sage note finally emerging, but I won’t have anymore bottles to see how it progresses. Heck of a value if you were looking for rich Spätlese, but bears no relation to what Kabinett should be.

Have you had a chance to try the Spatlese? The 2002 made it into Denver last year and I enjoyed the bottle I purchased. It didn’t seem mind-blowing, but had depth and balance, and many of the things I’m looking for in an 18 yo riesling.

I have the Spätlese*, but haven’t opened one in years. It was a beast when it was young.

That late release 2002 was a real gem.
