TN: 2009 Keller „G-Max“

„the very old vines are planted on stony soils atop massive limestone.“ KP Keller

„First, a few words about the name G-Max, which is certainly unusual. Max comes from the name of the Kellers‘ oldest son, Maximillian, and G stands for Georg, Klaus Peter’s great grandfather. He was the first member of the family to sell bottled wine, starting in 1921, and is therefore the de facto founder of the Keller winery.“ Stuart Pigott

2009 Keller „G-Max“

„The reasons for G-Max’s special reputation are complex, but the most important of them is the way it tastes“

It starts with a clear, youthful pale golden colour. The bouquet is truely intoxicating and with a mix of yellow fruit aromas incl. a touch of exotic fruit. As so often with legends or truely outstanding wines, the bouquet is such seductive that you almost doesn`t want to drink. The same here with the G-Max.

On the palate you taste the ripeness or warmth of the vintage incl. concentration, but everything is sublime/subtle. Nothing big or clumsy, instead finesse all over. Also the texture is such viscous. And then comes a balance/harmony incl. „unendliche“ length which is awesome. OM

Normally I drink such a wine only (!) with very good friends, but as 2009 is such a milestone in my life, I thought why not open a G-Max on a rainy Monday afternoon in July?! No fuss „Brimborium“…….it put a smile on my face.

Nice notes and I feel this should not be underestimated! While you loose out the sharing you can get a more intimate and focused experience with the wine.

YES, I thought so too. In addition with such wines it is important to open them on the right moment. After the heatwave with 38 C, it was wonderful to open something „nice“ on a rainy day with 22 C.
