TN: 2009 Joseph Faiveley Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley

TN: 2009 Joseph Faiveley Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley
A very complex and complete wine right off the bat, the color is not that deep or dark, it more in a cherry red spectrum, there is not a load of oak as expected on the bouquet, a 99 of this wine a few months back was undrinkable, cloves, rhubarb, lavender, moss, rose water, eucalyptus oil that moves on to a darker plum note, there is still plenty in reserve here. The palate does the magic trick of not being that dense or plush but it unfolds ever so gently along the palate and build weight as it slowly unfolds, the finish leaves you with beautifully fruit filled tannins that are very even, neat and penetrating. I am a little scared how rewarding this is young and I will have trouble keeping my hands off my other bottles. If you have some I would recommend tasting one now as it’s a really fun ride.

indeed shocking that Corton can be so approachable young. The price of this baby keeps me away from it now . . .

Had the 01 and 02 this past year, both which need much more time in bottle - by your note, I guess the style change is quite evident.

Picked up a couple of these but had them mentally slated for many years of storage. May need to rethink.

You can drink them while you wait for your 1990s to get ready…

It’s Twoo, It’s Twoo

I’ve had a couple of 64s in the last year that were great. I’ll track down some 2009 and give it a try.

Anyone had 1996 lately. Have a couple 6L that might outlive my kids kids.

Interesting wine this one (I haven’t had it personally).

Highly rated by the critics (I think across the board), yet some seem to have some reservations, or is that more vintage specific?

Certainly sounds like not what you might typically expect in a Corton though…

Had it at the winery, just mindblowing. Normally, the low end of the Faiveley GC lineup, wow, did it jump up. Head of the class in a tasting of Faiveley’s 09 and 10 GCs.

24 hours later and if anything it’s got even better, more Corton and masculine now but sit so silky with refrained power.

This wine is off the charts and easily the best of their 09 lineup.

Glad to hear all the positive comments. Got a couple of bottles pending.

Joe, noticed that you were in the OC. Where did your get yours? K&L is out and I can’t find anyone else carrying in this neck of the woods.

I taste it at the domaine and it was one of the best and most successful 2009 Red burgundies I tasted.

Envoyer. Greg had an offer a month or so ago. Seems fairly easy to find online if you’re willing to wait to ship when the weather gets cooler.

Snagged a couple of bottles that became available today on K&L.

Thank you for the Envoyer suggestion. At the same time, curse you! As that will no doubt be a huge money drain. Good thing it’s so hard to register and purchase on Envoyer or I would be a case deep right now. Good stuff, great prices.

His online store is pretty bare. It’s his daily email offerings that are hard to resist. Be prepared to have a lot pending wines from him. Great guy and really competitive prices.

I love all Faiveley’s reds since vintage 2005…

The 06s are just arrriving Quebec, Canada.
