TN: 2009 J.L. Chave Sélection Côtes du Rhône Mon Coeur

Just flat out good stuff around $20, maybe less in discount-oriented markets. Is this cuvee usually strong vintage to vintage?

Punching well above its weight class. Aromas of violets, lavender, smoked meats and blackberry. Quite the nose. Brimming with flavor and texture. Dark fruits on the attack, but amply fresh with a silky mid-palate. Finish hits again on he floral and spice themes. Tannins are firm, but accessible. It’s a wine for drinking young, yet vinous in character. (90 pts.)

Your impressions square with mine when I had this a couple of months ago. Like a lot of 09s, it was juicy/primary/grapy, with pretty soft tannins and fairly low acid. Surprisingly chuggable for a young Northern Rhone, but that seems to be the story of 2009.

Always a great value.

Haven’t had the '09 but have enjoyed some earlier versions. Good stuff at a fair price.

These always used to be a great value, but after '07 they have crept up into the $30 range around here. Still not bad, but nothing like the $19 they used to be had for.

What price are you guys finding?

Is this predominantly Grenache, or Syrah?
