2009 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/30/2013)
I’ve been meaning to drink my first Black Cat for some time. I had ordered a few bottles of these a several months back, and when I saw folks posting these are drinking well, I decided to open one up.
I didn’t drink this wine the right way. I initially decanted and my wife and I had a glass immediately. It had a very nicely perfumed nose, and a strong cherry flavor to the wine, smooth, and with a nice lingering finish.
I put the wine down to make dinner and pitter around the house - it probably sat for a few more hours in the decanter before we poured our second glasses. Wow - the aroma on this wine just exploded with a heavy fragrance, and the taste of this wine was much better integrated. Strongly suggest decanting this wine for a few hours or more to allow it to open up.
So, my wife and I are officially fans - this wine likely has a lot more life in it, but is drinking wonderfully now. I’ll look forward to trying some other vintages. (94 pts.)
