TN: 2009 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat (USA, California, Napa Valley)

I’ve been meaning to drink my first Black Cat for some time. I had ordered a few bottles of these a several months back, and when I saw folks posting these are drinking well, I decided to open one up.

I didn’t drink this wine the right way. I initially decanted and my wife and I had a glass immediately. It had a very nicely perfumed nose, and a strong cherry flavor to the wine, smooth, and with a nice lingering finish.

I put the wine down to make dinner and pitter around the house - it probably sat for a few more hours in the decanter before we poured our second glasses. Wow - the aroma on this wine just exploded with a heavy fragrance, and the taste of this wine was much better integrated. Strongly suggest decanting this wine for a few hours or more to allow it to open up.

So, my wife and I are officially fans - this wine likely has a lot more life in it, but is drinking wonderfully now. I’ll look forward to trying some other vintages. (94 pts.)

Nice to hear Scott. Looking forward to my first EMH as well.

I’ve had three bottles of this within the past year, and each one was beautiful. I had my first 2008 last week, and enjoyed it as much, if not more. It’s drinking great right now, so if you have one, enjoy.
