2009 Domaine Piron-Lameloise Chénas Quartz - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chénas (8/9/2011)
Transparent purple with a red rim. Raspberry and black pepper nose. Medium bodied and a bit lean. More red fruit on the palate with bracing acidity. Fruitiness leads to earthiness on the back end. Tannins linger through the finish. One of the more angular/austere 2009 Crus I’ve tried.

Thanks for posting this. I had it this weekend myself and thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with most all of this note. I would add that the raspberry fruit was vivid and intense (like all 09s) and while I would call this wine angular, I don’t agree with the austerity piece. I loved the linearity of this wine but it wasn’t too densely or reserved to call it austere. Day two this wine completely fell apart and was disappointingly flabby. Enjoy it on day one.
Thanks for the note. Never had a Chénas. Did you pop and pour, or aerate? If so, how long?
We did not give enough air. A short slow ox (20 min) at best. This could benefit from more air, but food would help here as well. Not the prototypical 2009 Cru.
