2009 Clos Pissarra Priorat El Ramon - Spain, Catalunya, Priorat (5/8/2016)
– decanted immediately before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over a few hours on Day 1; small taste on Day 7, too –
– Garnaxta; Samsao; Cabernet Sauvignon –
NOSE: ripe; non-descript dark fruits; oak.
BODY: sediment present; garnet-violet color of medium-deep depth; medium to medium-full bodied.
TASTE: 14.0% alc. can be tasted a bit; medium acidity; inky; still good on Day 7, surprisingly (re-corked, back in fridge); good-but-boring. Gut impression score: mid 80’s.
Thank you again for sharing, Brian!
Was the wine like a jammy, soupy mess? Overly soaked? Just a plain old Spanish hothouse red?
Honestly, I really don’t know, Drew. More than anything, it was just rather anonymous. As a general rule, I don’t appreciate blends that incorporate Cabernet Sauvignon and non-Bdx. varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah? No thanks. Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache? I’d rather have the Cab. and Syrah. I’m not sure I could identify an “over-soaked” wine — do you mean over-extracted?
Overly oaked. Auto-corrected.
Ahhh, gotcha. No, this was not over-oaked, imo.
