TN: 2009 Chapelle St. Theodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Sablons

  • 2009 Chapelle St. Theodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Sablons - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (11/9/2012)
nose: tight, even after being decanted for over 3 hours, but with dark tones of black cherries, loads of garrigue, lavender, pipe tobacco, and some tones of hot stones as well. Fairly complex in it’s youth with somewhat of a lush yet savory quality to the nose.

taste: medium bodied with good tannins. The tannins are chewy, but not not overbearing. Nice and smooth feel with good depth and tones of black cherries, garrigue, some meaty tones, lavender and some mesquite tones too.

overall: this received over 3 hours of air. While very young, this doesn’t feel like a long term wine. Still, it could use about 3-5 years to fully show what it has. It’s more tightly wound than anything else right now. (91 pts.)
