TN: 2009 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Estate Bottled Knox Alexander

  • 2009 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Estate Bottled Knox Alexander - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (12/26/2012)
Very tasty…bright and tangy wild red berry fruit…strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate…wonderful dusty cherry, liqueur berry, dried flowers, vanilla bean. Has a nice transparency to it…crunchy minerals…reminds one of a Village Burgundy. Smoky steminess, cherry vanilla cordials, clean and mellow in alcohol(13.5), good dryness. Love this! (93 pts.)

Happy to see this shinning out of the gate. As you know, Jim crafts his wines for the long run and when they show well early on, its just an added benefit. Ive been holding off opening this one, but Ive had a lot of the 09 Isabelle which is really drinking nicely now and promises to be a winner decades down the line. Thanks for the notes.

I saw this the other day at a higher-end Vons (Safeway) for about $35 with the club card. Thanks for the note. May go in for a few.

You got a deal and 1/2.

Blake, I’ve always really enjoyed the Isabella. Great juice.

It did catch my eye and usually one I look out for.

Brig, as you probably know, the blends Jim uses for Knox and Isabelle are different from year to year. Both are from the best barrels from the best vineyards of each year and represent a style profile he has in mind. For me, Isabelle is clearly the more preferred of the two, but I`ve had some really good Knox and always try both vintage after vintage.

One other point. These wines are really ideal in magnum size since they have such great longevity. I`ve got mags from the outset of all and every time I open one, it outshines the 750 markedly.
