Sarah,
Do you think non-dosage doesn’t age as well? This is a curious query, looking for your thoughts rather than to argue anything. Just wondering.
My assumption would be that no dosage Champagnes do not age “as well” as the opposite.
Marcus - I do think so. Granted I haven’t had any 30+ year old non-dose champagnes, but my experience, and conversations with a few whose opinions on and knowledge of champagne I greatly respect, leads me to believe it will not age as well. I also think it will not age in the same way, meaning the changes in profile and characteristics that I expect from maturing dosed champagne will probably not be the same as the changes in zero dosage. And I can’t say when, exactly, the paths diverge (of course there could never be a single answer). I’m open minded, and could certainly be wrong. For now, I will mostly stick the window I described earlier.
It’s an interesting question, thanks for the the thoughtful response. I haven’t had any older non-dosage champagnes either. Looking at Riesling, as much as GG wines age superbly, many have a similar level of RS to dosed champagnes.
LOVE the energetic playfulness of the ox and bread dough yeastiness, with the bright lemon sour tarts!!! Can’t get enough of this wine!
The 2008 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs was yeastier than I thought it would be. Is that consistent with other’s notes? I see yeasty in the descriptions, but this seem yeastier than others.
My note mentions “pastry”. I found the mature, oxidative nature more noteworthy than the yeastiness, but it’s been a while. I’ll open one and see if I find the same.
That captures my impressions a bit better than my words.
