TN: 2008 Pierre Boisson Meursault (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault)

  • 2008 Pierre Boisson Meursault - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (11/7/2014)
This thing is like a skinnier version of a Coche. It has all of the sulphur, ripping acidity and density but not the flesh. It is still supremely youthful with a luminous green tinge. There are notes of gun-flint, lemon, white peach and lilies. It is linear and piercing and has a huge lick of minerally acidity on the finish. Me likes.

Has anyone tried this recently, other than the tasting notes on CT?

I’ve really liked the line-up from Boisson. His Auxey-Duresses En Reugne is my current favorite bottling as it has more flesh than the Meursault. Pierre is good friends with Raphael Coche so the similarities in winemaking are apparent.

I opened a bottle of this (the 08 PB Meursault) a few weeks ago. Jeremy’s description of gun-flint, lemon, white peach, lilies, minerality and lots of acidity fits what I had. I’ve only had a Coche-Dury once ~4 years ago…it was a very young Bourgogne Blanc and was young enough that it wasn’t expressive yet (wasn’t decanted tho). Anyways, I can’t comment much on the comparison there, other than it seems like a reasonable comparison given my tenuous experience.

I thought this was a tremendous wine and am sad I only have 1 bottle left…tho I have other Boisson/Boisson-Vadot that I can enjoy.

I opened an 09 Pierre Boisson Meursault last year and it had an amazing amount of acidity, higher than the 08 (the 08s I’ve had), while staying in the realm of balance. I’m going to give the 09s a fair bit of time before I open another.

It’s possible that I like the Pierre Boisson Meursault more than the Boisson-Vadot Grands Charrons. Both are single vineyard wines I believe (the PB Meursault is from a vineyard Pierre inherited from his Grandmother), and I really like both. But the PB Meursault has a bit more tension and minerality than the Grands Charrons…tho it’s possible the Grands Charrons might show more depth if it had more time.

And a big thanks to Jeremy for posting about these wines so I could discover them. Keep it up!

Thanks. I have 4 bottles that I bought on a whim, and I’ve been debating whether to hold or drink them.

These have been a bit tight when the corked was pulled, but the wine opened up within 15-30 minutes and showed very well after that. I’d say open one up…esp since the premox record here isn’t well understood (to me anyways), tho they act like premox won’t be a problem. When did that mean anything tho. I’d give it a double decant just before dinner if you can.

I had the 2009 Meursault Genevrieres in France in February. It was really very good, and the stylistic parallels to Coche make sense, although I don’t think this would have been flattered by direct comparison with Coche’s 2009 Genevrieres, which is quite a bomb. Amazing how quickly the Boisson wines have become extremely scarce and expensive…

I’ve consumed about eight of my twelve bottles. for some reason, premier cru was posting this off on weekend specials (I think mine was $28, or maybe 32), and then actually supplying the wine.

It’s a great deal, and showing quite well now. Mine have fattened up a bit. I’d suggest going ahead and trying one. Love the style and love the producer. Recent prices have risen and they seem harder to get, though.
