any thoughts on where this bottle will go?
I haven’t been drinking wine long enough to forecast a drinking window, but I think this will be really nice if it opens up and shows some fruit. The structure is really nice - great balance of acid and tannin, no hints of being over-ripe, but it’s just not showing anything right now. Maybe re-visit in 6 months?
I tried at the winery and loved it and bought a bunch.
Willamette Reserve 2008. Wow, this is something special, back up the truck for this $25 wonder. This is certainly up there with the 07 vineyard designates and a great endorsement for 08 on Ribbon Ridge. While still primary it is already showing depth and great aromatics. A-/A
I opened one on delivery and here’s the later note:
On night one, very closed (duhh), medium bodied, bold fruit. Night 2 , the nose still showed primary fruit but added some blueberry, tea and mintiness. More earthy now, more aromatics. Ripe berries. Short finish at this stage in its evolution.
Goldilocks says the 06 bed was too soft and the 07 bed was too hard but this 08 is just right.
Yep, this is lovely but I won’t open another bottle for at least a year.
I should have read your note on CT before opening this. I was just excited to start trying some more 08’s.
The wine(berserker) world is in deep trouble when people start taking my TNs seriously!
On the palate, tart red fruits, orange rind and a hint of forest floor. While there’s a nice density to the wine, there’s plenty of acidity to keep things balanced. Tannins are unobtrusive and finish is medium.
My second go round with this wine in the last 8 months and it is a delicious bargain that still has many years of life left. It could probably use a bit more oomph in the mid-palate, but that’s a quibble. This is a delicious wine at a bargain price that speaks very well of Oregon. (91 pts.)

2002’s just started to come round the past couple of years. 2008 requires patience too.
While I appreciate the sentiment, there’s no crime opening a bottle now. While I agree that the 2008 can age longer, it’s in a good spot if you’re looking for a wine that’s delicious and fresh. If you’re prizing complexity, I would hold off 5 or so more years, which is what I plan to do with my remaining bottle.
