TN: 2008 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir Estate Old Vine Ribbon Ridge

this is a stellar bottle of wine. Seamless with a briny cranberry finish infused with a dose of minerals. full bodied yet light on its feet. This goes down way too fast since it is irresistible. The nose has a lot of underbrush and umami and it shows up in the palate as well, but this is still youthful right now and the fruit is giving immense pleasure. Last taste I got some strawberry rhubarb pie. There is a lot going on here. I could see ageing this, but this was my last bottle of three, so I will need to find some more of this. (93 pts.)

Love the old vine bottling. Thanks for the note.

I was talking to Jim Anderson about this wine recently and he said it should pretty much age forever and to give it more time.

Great wine Alex and has really developed. My last bottle earlier this year showed so much better than 2 years ago. I believe these are just entering their drinking window. Need to search out a few more as well. Here was my note from Jan

This is just starting to emerge and show itself. Really nice lighter red fruit interwoven with complex spice and supporting structure. Much more expressive than the bottle tried in 2010. Would have like to have watched it evolve all afternoon but it was the last bottle pulled on Championship Sunday and got a short decant. Drink now with a longer decant or give it another year or two. I believe some additional upside is possible. Beatiful wine and dare I say Burgundian in style. Sweet spot Pinot for me

Pretty much the 08 mantra. PGC and a good number of “the usual suspects” dialed it in…this TN thread = case in point.

I still have one foot in the Rick Allen camp. There were a lot of 08s that were quite “harsh”, big acid and bigger tannins. I’m skeptical they’ll all turn in to beautiful swans. It’ll be great to check on a large sample size at a future post-IPNC tasting…but that could be 2018+!

I had the 08 Balcombe this week and it is starting to open up and was excellent. I love the red fruit and spice profile. It kept unwinding with time with more and more layers but alas we didn’t get a chance to follow it too long as it was so darn good.

Rich/Ron- how would you compare 08/10/12 for the PG line up. Just looking for general perspective. Not many 08’s around. I bought some of the 12’s but missed 10 in general for most OR producers. I’m looking to backfill and seek some more 12’s( I know I’m late to the game)

Fred,

PGC 08s, true to form with other better WV Pinots, should improve with more time. I thought the '10s were beautiful from the get go and still are. Jim A claims 2012 is their best yet. For my AFWE fringe palate, I’m not quite as sold…but I’ll be happy to be proven wrong in the future. You should definitely try a couple as they’re quite accessible and largely ready to go.

Nice note. I have a 2011 and a 2012 on the way right now.

The '09 is still going strong too (although I fear this was my last bottle).

Loved this. Soaring nose with spice, pepper and mineral mixed with dark fruit. Equally nice on the palate with expansive dark fruit flavors and a nice dose of acidity. Great finish. Drinking well now with no signs of decline so should be fine for at least 3-5 years (maybe longer). (92 pts.)
