First try with the 2008 vintage. This smells just awful when first poured! A rotten fruit aroma that thankfully disappears with a 30 minute decant. After that smell blows off the nose is simply gorgeous with bee pollen, anise, wool and pineapple. On the palate this is textbook Pinon: just off dry up front and finishing bone dry with excellent length. It’s a bit lighter bodied then I remember from previous vintages but with excellent concentration of flavor. Drinking this wine is always like eating a fresh piece of perfectly ripe pineapple. Excellent value at $19.00, (though I miss the not so distant days when this was only $12.00), and a killer pairing with Al Pastor style tacos. I’ll certainly be bringing a few bottles of this with me to Puerto Vallerta in a few weeks.
Thanks for the notes. Sounds good.
