TN: 2008 Florian Beck-Hartweg Cuvee de L'Ours Gewurtz

This was a Berserker Exclusive purchase for me (and an excellent deal in my opinion, as it was part of the Gewurtz Gone Wild case). Light straw in the glass, the nose on this wine is honey and rain water. In the mouth, the wine is beyond quaffable. There is a good dose of bees wax with a little flower petal, orange rind and a subtle savory note. Perhaps the wine is a bit straight-forward, but then I don’t expect an intellectual challenge from every wine I drink. This wine is pleasurable, easy to drink and a nice compliment to the simply grilled swordfish steak I had for dinner tonight. Berserker Exclusives rock.

Glad you liked the wine - just curious if you have tried the '04 or '05 Grand Cru Frankstein? The age has mellowed out the '04 and the '05 is really in a sweet place right now, but I’d be real interested in your thoughts.

Thanks again! Believe it or not, I still have some of the '04, '05 and '06 still in my warehouse. These are basically “new” wines to the US, so I was able to help them clean out their older bottles. Florian was just in town and brought me a 1990 Pinot Gris Frankstein… I can still taste it as the minerality (granite) just goes on forever. if you bought any of the PG, DON’T TOUCH IT!

Hello Brad,
Glad too that you liked it, and if you wish more complexity, just let it age a bit more. I totally agree with your notes: for the moment it is very fruity and agreable, but not yet very complex. But the very nice sandstone terroir will show up in the next years, and regarding to your comments I think that you will like it better like that.

I’m glad you noticed my notes on your wines. I did enjoy the Cuvee de L’Ours quite a bit, and I thought the 2004 Frankstein was really good. I’ll wait a few years to open the other Cuvee de L’Ours to see how it ages, and in the meantime I’ll taste through some of the other bottles in my Berserker case and post a few more notes.

Yes Brad I don’t write a lot on the board, but I read quite a lot. It is so interesting for me to read both TNS about wines that I have never discovered ( good non-French wines are not easy to find here…) and notes about wines I know but with a very different point of view.
At the same time, I learn more English, which I really really need to ameliorate!!
