TN: 2008 Drouhin Saint-Veran

2008 Drouhin Saint-Veran - Bottled under screwbap. I decanted it a bit. My understanding is that this is unoaked and it certain comes accross as very pure. There are medium intensity aromatics of minerals, creamy butter and white flower perfume. Its tastes fresh and energetic with light to medium intensity sweet flower-tinged chardonnay flavors. Very electric acidity. Nice finish. My rating: B+. A very good QPR at $16 or so.

My rating system:

Flawed
Not Rated - So far stylistically from what I like to drink I can’t really offer an opinion.
(D) - A wine that is unpleasant to drink
(C) - I did not enjoy drinking it but its not horrible.
(B) - I enjoyed it but there is some slight imbalance to the wine.
(B+) - I enjoyed this wine. The wine is balanced and complete.
(A-) - I really enjoyed this wine. Compelling and full of character.
(A) - I loved drinking the wine. Every sip made me stop and take notice. Excellent.
(A+) - An extraordinary wine that defies the laws of physics. Very rarely met.

Note: for me there is no correlation to weight/extraction and score.

Love this wine. it is a great QPR
the change over to screw cap was in the 08. the 07 was bottled with cork.

I’ve drank around six of these and love it. Especially when most AOC Chablis in my neck of the woods went from $14 to $18+ per on a regular basis.

Berry,
Thanks for the note. Can sometimes find some good values in the Macon and vicinity.
BTW, like your new ranking system. Are you going to trademark it?
Cheers,
Steve

I don’t drink too widely from that area but Drouhin’s St-Veran (as well as their rully) often satisfy me as much or more as many villages level wine from the Cote de Beaune. I like the purity and lack of overt oak influence yet they still have that buttery white burg quality that I can really enjoy. Alot of white burgs have too much oak for my taste.

I hereby donate it to the public domain
