TN: 2008 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

2008 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

From a 375ml bottle. I previously had the 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 vintages of this wine. This 2008 was by far my least favorite. 80% Corvina Veronese, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta. 15.5% alcohol. Paired with an Italian pot roast. Not decanted with a good amount of sediment. Crushed blackberry aromas. Full bodied and very raisiny. Better with food but still over the top for my tastes. This was my 2nd bottle with consistent notes. 85 points.

I always felt that way about Allegrini –

As an alternative from Winebow, did you ever try Zenato?

I’ve had 2 Zenato Amarone but nothing in the last 7 years.

2013 Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Distributor tasting. A young wine. More red fruit than prune or raisin. Medium bodied. 90 points.

2000 Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sergio Zenato Riserva
This was poured at the WS Grand Tour in May. First, I will say that the label on this wine can be very deceiving. I believe the only difference between this bottle and the regular Amarone is the the signature of “Sergio Zenato” is on the label. This wine was fuller and more concentrated than most of the Amarone at the Grand Tour. Solid core of deep black fruit and prune. 15.5% alcohol but it was not hot. 91 points.

I only have a couple Amarone bottles, and have never been sure what to eat with them. Pot roast sounds like its doable.
