TN: 2007 Westrey Pinot Noir Oracle (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills)

  • 2007 Westrey Pinot Noir Oracle - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills (1/30/2010)
Another good 07 OR PN for less than $20. Light-medium weight with classic OR pinot nose. Reflective of the vintage, and not in a bad way: it’s lean and elegant, a perfect food wine. Great balance across the palate, with ample (but not intrusive) acidity, a mouthful of raspberries, funk, and minerality, and a pleasing finish.

I’ve had both the Oracle and Justice within the past couple of weeks, and the Oracle is a little more complete and quite a bit sappier right now. Both are excellent, but don’t tell anyone. More '07s for us! [stirthepothal.gif]

Really enjoyed the '07 Justice and happily paid full retail (before sub-$20 postoff prices). Have not tried the Oracle yet, may need to pick up a few, and, am happy to see the '08s are priced pretty close to $20 as well. Really have enjoyed what the '07s in general have been showing lately, but I think I will be shifting my purchases to the '08s as they come out, just too good to pass up.

Hi Mark, welcome to WB. Interesting comment about 07 versus 08. I sort of think I’ll be making the same purchasing shift, particularly given the high marks everyone has given the 08 vintage. Then again, at least one critic dissed 2007, yet the 07s I’ve had have been remarkably enjoyable.

I agree on the quality of the '07s and have even come across a few more I really like and wouldn’t mind having a few bottles of, but, I have plenty of '07s stashed away already and limited funds. I haven’t had much OR PN with age on it, but the few I’ve had were very interesting and '08 is looking like the vintage to stock up on and lay down.

Thanks for the note. Holding off a little longer on this. Looking forward to tasting more 08s but I still love the 07s. The 07s are wines I can just keep drinking.
