2007 Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva - Italy, Sardinia, Cannonau di Sardegna (9/24/2011)
Sensational quality for the money. Can be had for less than $12 per bottle locally in Austin. This is a Cannonau (Grenache) from Sardinia and it is like no other Grenache I’ve ever had. Medium-bodied with silky (rather than velvety) texture, this shows lots of interesting nuance. Red licorice, earth, leather, dried herbs and cherry. Not something I would cellar, but it’s terrific with all kinds of Italian food including Pizza and Pasta.

Check out Contini’s cannonau if you can find them. I particularly like their Inu Riserva as a refined take on Cannonau di Sardegna.
