2007 Saxum James Berry Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (11/25/2009)
A friend came by and opened this. Way too young of course, but I loved the chance to try the “utterly perfect” wine (RP100). I am not sure if I would go that far (but I might in the future). Like a super concentrated, super ripe Chateauneuf du Pape. A finish that goes absolutely forever. On opening, I could smell it from three feet away. Cherries, raspberries, slightly meaty, candied apples, smoke, minerals, etc. On the palate, this is lush with massive fruit. A slight raisin note, that is unique but not bad. I will hold my bottle for a while, because while accessible, this really needs at least a bit of time to come together. All of the above said, it actually does seem just slightly throttled down from the 06 in a good way and that makes me think it will age out even longer. (97 pts.)
