2007 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/7/2022)
First bottle of six purchased directly, not decanted. Color is a deep purple, with zero signs of bricking. The nose on this wine! Explosive out of the glass with deep dark fruit, cassis, spice, anise, and minerals. Still somewhat grippy tannins, the wine is full and lush and pleasingly round and robust, with great acidity and plenty of fruit. No rush on this, I’ll drink my remaining bottles over the next 5+ years. (93 pts.)

Did this wine pickup decent complexity over 15 years, or if you didn’t have it when released, does it seem more complex than recent vintages? I’m not sure how long to hold my more modern Napa Cabs like Rivers-Marie and Myriad.
Hey Jordan, in this particular case I had purchased six bottles and they all gut buried at offsite for a number of years, so in this particular case I did not try it young. I have had other vintages both young and with some age, and I find they do indeed pick up complexity and round out a bit with 10+ years. I opened an '03 not terribly long ago (sadly, my last bottle), and while that was a very ripe wine, it was still drinking great.
