2007 Ravines Wine Cellars Meritage - USA, New York, Finger Lakes, Keuka Lake (7/29/2011)
I bought a bottle of this after having the 2008 at the Finger Lakes Wine Festival earlier in the month. I was surprised at how much I liked the 2008, so I was looking forward to trying the 2007. The 2007 is a very nice bordeaux type wine. It is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. A nice nose of spice, with some blackberry noted on the first taste. The wine evolved nicely in the glass, exhibiting some smoke, earth and pepper - but the blackberry and dark cherry flavors were still predominant. The wine’s tannins were well structured as was the acidity. A very nice wine, and one that eases some of my concern about the red wines being produced in the Finger Lakes. I look forward to drinking the 2008 again. (90 pts.)
