TN: 2007 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano

2007 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (2/4/2013)
Somehow I “accidentaly” ended up with extra bottles of the Montestefano, so despite the fact that I normally bury Producttori Riservas in the cellar for many years one was opened last night. There’s lots of flowers and red fruit, as well as some earthier, depper aromas. It’s tannic, but not brutally so (moderated by the vintage?), and the overall palate impression is still quite youthfully fruity. The balance is good, so this looks to have at least mid-term cellaring potential, though it’s not seeming like a long ager due to the more civilized nature of the tannins.

10 years seem a good time to begin checking on these?

That would seem to make sense. Other vintages (e.g. 2004) seem more suirted to the longer haul, but it’s also good to have something that may not need decades of aging.

Yes!
Accent on checking. [cheers.gif]
