2007 Pax Syrah Kobler Family Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/19/2010)
Decanted a couple hours before dinner. Inky black turning translucent ruby at the edges. A small taste right after opening shows intense red/black fruits followed by grippy tannins, which reveal peaches as they fade in the very long finish. Returned the decanter to the cellar for 2 hours. With dinner: Nose of red fruits, flowers, and spice. The palate reveals strawberry rhubarb, rose water, peaches, which morph into cola and pepper. Nice wine. Got my wife to admit there may sometimes be a reason to sometimes drink expensive wine. (91 pts.)
