A prelude to Mike on Tour, I had the unique chance to go and learn how to make gnocchi with a bunch of other friends at my friends’ Lynn and Jon’s place. I brought this for us to imbibe while making and eating.
When I visited Olivier in May and was talking about this, he stated emphatically that it was already drinking well. And he was quite right. This, guys, is stunning, maybe the best I’ve ever had from his portfolio. It has sweet herbs and spices and nips of pepper around terrific pear and apple fruit. The palate is even better, with tremendous length married with perfectly balanced acidity and aromatic replayed expression, with some marzipan add. If anyone needed to know what Corton Charlemagne was about and why it can be revelicious, this is example A. 94 at least, a great, great wine. I have one more of these that is slated for opening in 2 years. We’ll see if I can wait that long.
Haere Ra,
Mike
