2007 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (8/22/2024)
– decanted approx. 1 hr. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 1.25 hrs. –

NOSE: “dark” — dark red/purple fruit mix; not funky.

BODY: full bodied; violet-garnet color of great depth, with slight bricking throughout.

TASTE: soft tannins; definitely “Big”; can feel the 15% abv a bit on the palate; “dark”; dark berries, fig paste, and a touch pruney. Purchased at the winery during our one visit to CdP, back when Boislauzon was a pet favorite of mine. Since then, our palates have shifted, and we don’t drink CdP all that often anymore. I don’t understand the RP100 on this one, but that doesn’t really surprise me much — each of the few RP100s I’ve had have been massive, arguably overblown, wines — this one is no different. I can’t imagine further ageing is going to turn this into a swan, but there’s certainly the possibility that it improves a bit at the margins. Drink or Hold.
